Shaping Transit in July

With increasing investments in electrification and sustainability, Canada’s transit sector is accelerating its transformation. Here are three key trends shaping the industry this month:

Electrification Momentum in Ottawa: OC Transpo has placed a significant order for 124 battery-electric buses, supported by federal funding and the Zero Emission Transit Fund. This move will expand their electric fleet to 175 vehicles by 2026, reinforcing Ottawa's commitment to quieter, cleaner, and more efficient public transit.

Infrastructure Expansion in Peterborough: A $42.9 million investment from federal and provincial governments is funding a new transit garage and maintenance facility in Peterborough. This project will support fleet expansion, including electric and low-emission vehicles, ensuring sustainable transit growth for the region.

Simcoe's Zero-Emission Strategy: The County of Simcoe has received $221,116 in combined funding from the federal government, CUTRIC, and the Federation of Canadian Municipalities to develop a strategy for transitioning to zero-emission transit. This initiative will address economic, technological, and environmental considerations, paving the way for a greener future.
